I just don't get it.....

Hmmmmm whats on my mind today? Well i don't know if logic eludes some people or some people defy all logic...I am a logical person , I make decisions based on my priorities ..If i need to do something to improve my life or my home then i have that mental list in my head..I don't cut corners and procrastinate , putting things off unless its not possible to have that particular thing done at a reasonable time..you know if you need to have help or another person do the job and for some good reason is not available , then thats something that cannot be helped...i then go on to the next most important thing...as most know home ownership comes with prices...
People dont own a home or have much of anything cannot seem to grasp the costs associated with that . Their priorities always seem to fall within boundaries that well ...make you scratch your head and wonder ..Ok alot of people rent and thats good for the landlord for sure , and the people rent are comfortable with that lifestyle...some get by with low income rentals , others rely on the " system " to get by , some just get by , will not even entertain the idea of finding a job and being a productive member of society...now i understand the economics of being in an area where jobs are not plentiful..
Ok this is where i get stumped..i do understand when someone is on a fixed income relying on the Government to their way , ok lets say it " welfare" ..even though its not a bad word its still not a great way to live...but if you are and you waste that on smokes and booze but seem to forget those groceries ...Huh? What? Duh !
I have two friends both smoke like diesel trains...one has COPD and has been told numerous times by his Dr to give up the smokes...the other guy is over 300 pounds also makes tobacco a priority has numerous health issues and also was told to give it up....He complains hes starving all the time and asks for and handouts so he can buy food..I know he does not go to a food bank , so thats my dilema.....I feel bad that they have to live that way but i put my and energy into my own home...I struggle to make ends meet by times ..I am on a fixed income...stressed alot by having to deny them and feel bad when those sad puppy eyes look at me ..i am trying not to be a pushover ....

thats true enough and its discouraging because i am recovering from a motorcycle accident and am in a wheel chair because i lost my leg so things are harder for me than most people , and they know it but take advantage of my good nature and i am not giving in , but it got me very stressed by times..poor people shouldnt smoke or drink ..lol I cant afford to drink ...

Overindulgences (sex, food, chemical substances, etc.) are lifestyle choices at first, then become addictions at some point when the person becomes hooked on whatever it is. This is the crux of the problem ... people who ask others to help them support those addictions do not care that asking another person to help support that habit might be putting the other person in a bad situation. It's all about taking care of their NEED, it's not logical. Handouts are great if they're to help someone out in an emergency situation, but anything else is just enabling.

None of us are getting out alive, so let's at least try to be nice to each other while we're here.

i am so sorry and i can relate to you ..I have helped people all my life and never asked for anything in return ad what simply amazes me is when i am in dire straights they seem to vanish...my thing is friends do help friends but sometimes the thing goes way too far..when i lend money ( which is rare today) I ask for to be repaid but i never get it back so i let it slide ...I rather be bit by a rabid dog these days and die a slow painful death than help out someone who is oblivious to struggles of mine...but when i have my home in order and am broke as usual i will still have more than they have..I feel for you i really do but saying no to welchers is one thing you gotta put your foot down to..listen to your wife shes right !! thanks hon stay frosty

yeah i know lol but i am hardened these days to the whining and moaning of the poor people in my life..I helped people all of my life that i knew were moochers and even though i had it real rough and still do then was then and now is now ..I dont feel bad for them any more i have way too much to lose here i dont need moochers ruining my life any more ...its different if i met someone who was in dire straights i wouldnt hesitate to help but those who just are welching off of friends and society well they can lump together when they are out in the street ...I am so done

I am with you. I have been known to help a few and still will gladly help someone who truly needs it. However those individuals you are referring to you are truly not helping. You are helping support them and that is a an entirely different matter. I do feel for you as I thik you are like me in that you want to help people in general.

well if they aren't one of my sisters or bro-in-law, you'll get a kind word and no money...we give to the sally ann every now and then, so we can say we gave something....and let our mind rest easy.

yeah i get that part but friends are supposed to help friends without asking for anything in return and it puts me in a hard spot because i need help with errands and some other things on occasion and its really really hard to find help without having to rely on either ...i really only consider one of them a better friend than the other ...but anyway ....thanks

In a few states I have lived in, now & then some politician proposes that anyone who smokes(now that would include vaping too) should NOT be eligible for any kid of welfare !! I have no problem with this, BUT, they have NEVER been able to get such a law passed!
WHY??
Because for one, our government subsidizes the tobacco industry !! Are you surprised?? You say how could they do that?? With agriculture subsidies, thats how !!
Secondly, because this law would only apply to the person applying for these benes, but would deprive his/her spouse and all dependents of those benes, and MAYBE they dont smoke !!!
I personally think drinking should also be a part of this law, but that wont happen either.
There are a few states that have managed to get laws passed that say, IF a person applying for welfare benes has been convicted of a drug offense, they are not eligible for welfare benes ! I heartedly approve, but with the almost legalizing of pot these days, what will constitute a drug offence? Meth, OMG that is a huge prob around here, but that is a whole diff issue.
